Ask Public Library

One of the library tours on Wednesday, August 17, go to Ask Public Library in Gjerdrum (before lunch) and to the neighbouring community of Ullensaker (after lunch). I will be one of the local guides to this small library, which serves a community of five thousand people.

Why? It so happens that my wife, Bozena Rasmussen, heads the Gjerdrum library.

Blogging

I write occasional news and comments in English at the blog Pliny the Younger. Before April I published similar items at the web site Post scriptum. Here, the news archive goes back to 2002: 2005 - 2004 - 2003 - 2002.

Teaching materials

At Oslo University College I teach courses in four main areas:

1. library management and organization
2. quantitative and qualitative methods
3. web publishing and web supported teaching
4. web-based reference work

All my teaching in Oslo is conducted in Norwegian. But for some years I have taught a 15 hour course in Digital reference services in Cracow. See also a selection of links on digital libraries (bilingual).

Public library policy

Information in English from the Special interest group on public library policy under the Norwegian Library Association. I work as their volunteer web editor.

Projects

My main research project 2004-2007 is GOBI: Good to know! A sociological analysis of Norwegian question-and-answer services. The project continues What do people ask?.

I am also doing work on library statistics, on development strategies for the library sector - as well as a small study of IFLA participation: Who goes to IFLA?. A summary of previous international work is listed here.
