About the network


The initiative

SMILE - the International Forum for Small and Medium-sized Libraries - is an experiment.

At the moment, SMILE is just an informal group of librarians that want to promote the work of smaller libraries in a global perspective. The initiative to create such a group was taken in August 2003, during the IFLA conference in Berlin.

An open, digital network

The SMILE working group wants to develop an open horizontal network rather than a formal membership organisation. We will communicate through e-mail and the open web. At this stage, the group will focus its activities on IFLA 2005 in Oslo. The following step is open ...
