February 13. The year
2005 is an important year for Norwegian libraries. Three events of great
significance are:
- The IFLA conference in Oslo 14th – 18th of
August.
- The Library White Paper, which is being prepared
by the Norwegian Archive, Library and Museum Authority on behalf of
The Ministry of Culture and Church Affairs. Its main objective is to
create a strategy document for a fundamental revision of the library
sector as a whole.
- The national campaign The public library in the knowledge
society (FOKUS 2005). The campaign was initiated by SFP and
launched with a press conference at the Norwegian Parliament on January
19. Several distinguished members of parliament with a commitment to
cultural affairs participated and gave their strong support to the campaign
manifesto.
Two important conferences on strategies for library policy are being
held this spring:
- The Norwegian Library Association (NBF) 10th – 11th of February,
Stjørdal. Special session: SFP was formally established on February
at 10.30 am.
- Tønsberg Public Library 9th – 11th of March. The Halmstad
Conference – “Quo vadis”.
January 31. Starting next month, Eli Wilhelmsen
- our board member from Ullensaker - will be editor of these SFP web pages
in English.

November 22. The Norwegian Library Association accepted
our proposal for a national campaign to promote public libraries in 2005.
A working group consisting of Tore Kr. Andersen (secretary general of
NBF), Trond Minken and Bozena Rasmussen (chair and deputy chair of SFP)
will direct the work.
The main theme of the campaign is The public library in the knowledge
society. The campaign is associated with the IFLA campaign @your
library. |
