OUC photojournalism programme 2009/10

Student workshop in Bangladesh and Nepal 10

Hello everybody!

My name is Martin Guttormsen, and I`m a 34 years old photojournalism student from Oslo. I have been taking pictures for about 10 years now, and I started working whit analog cameras. Before I began at the Oslo University College in 2008 I had none experience with the digital world. But now I am starting to find out of it.

I am married to Benedikte Slørdal, and we became parents to our beautiful daughter in May 2009. Her name is Karlogna, and she is now six months old.

The school here in Oslo gives us the uppertunity to find out what we would like to take pictures of, and how we would like to use our photographic expression. I like to take pictures when I can use long time on the subject, and I also like to write articles to my pictures, especially feature articles.

I have never been to Bangladesh before, and I have never been to any country in Asia either. So I am looking forward to meet you all in Bangladesh and learn about your country from you.

I have three ideas I would like to do when I come to Bangladesh:

•  Shipwrecking in Chittagong. The subject has been done several times before, but I think it is important to focus on it. I am now working to get accsess to the area in Chittagong. I am not sure that it will work out, but I am making and effort.

•  Middleclass people in Chittagong. Your country is growing and the economics is getting better for some people in your country. I would like to portrait the middleclass in Chittagong, the people that have started to get more material stuff and more money. I would like to compare the middleclass in your country with the middleclass in Norway.

•  Boatbuilding in Chittagong. I like boats very much. Especially sailboats, and I like the tradition of making boats in wood. I think it would be great to find an environment that build boats, and follow the people that do this work

I am really looking forward to see you in January, to talk with you and to get to know you!

Best regards,

Martin
