Student workshop in Bangladesh and Nepal 10
Hey,
My name is Joacim Jørgensen. I'm 21 years and I'm from a rural place in the middle of Norway,
called Sykkylven. It's a small place with approximately 8000 citizens. I've been taking pictures for a
while, but started to take photojournalism seriously when I was about 18 years old. I'm interested in
society, politics, people, music, travelling, photography and a lot of other stuff I probably can bore
you with when I get down there. I've travelled some what before and been to the Middle East, but
not as far as Bangladesh and Nepal, so I'm really looking forward to the trip. Heard a lot of great
things already from students and friends that have been there before. Can't wait!
I also have a home page and a blog in English, so feel free to have a look! My home page, and my
blog.
I got a bunch of ideas and I don't think I will have the time to get all of them done, but here are the
ones I've been researching on to do in Nepal:
The life as a Sherpa:
Sherpas is a tribe in Nepal and they are born high up in the mountains. Since they are born many
thousand meters over sea levels it gives them a good advantage to deal with the low oxygen levels
when they are in the Himalayan mountains. Because of their good ability to cope with the low
oxygen levels, mountain climbers from all the world use Sherpas to help them get on top of
mountains. I want to tell the story of a Sherpa and show what they do to survive.
Drug and alcohol addiction in Nepal:
Drug and alcohol addiction is a big problem in Nepal. I wish to make a story about a Nepalese
familiy that have problems with drug or alcohol, or have had it, but is in recovery. I am also
thinking about making a story about Ric-Rose Cooperation in Nepal which is a drug rehabilitate
center in Kathmandu. They use yoga and meditation among other things, to help people with their
addictions.
Poaching
Poaching in Nepal is a big problem in many of the asiatic countries. I want to go to Royal Chitwan
National Park in Nepal and make a story about the people that are trying to prevent poaching from
happen.
Best regards,
Joacim
