The short version
Tonne teaches grammar and the relevance of grammar
for the teacher’s work in primary and secondary school. The subjects are related to the task of
enhancing pupils’ reading and writing development in particular and language
development in general. Tonne furthermore teaches didactic aspects in Norwegian
as a second language, pupil’s text development, multilingual issues,
sociolinguistics and language politics. In her research Tonne is engaged with
new literacy studies, in particular how an extensive access to quality
literature may enhance the reading and writing development of children. She is
furthermore interested in the correlation between pupils’ reading and writing
competences. She regularly publishes articles and columns on language issues
for a wider public in books and in the daily press. Tonne has a PhD in
linguistics (2001), with a dissertation on aspectual contrasts between
Norwegian, Spanish and English.
